Meeting Today for PMHA - It didn’t happen.

By Sentinel Staff
A meeting of the Portsmouth Metropolitan Housing Authority (PMHA) board
of directors was scheduled to be held at twelve o’clock noon today at the
Hudson House. There was no meeting; there were not enough board members
present to hold a meeting.
However, the latest appointed member of the board did appear; Mike
Mearan, noted local attorney, was sworn in by Tim Angel, Chairman of the
Board of Directors of PMHA. Mr. Mearan has a long record of free public
service; he recently completed a term as a member of the Board of
Directors of the Ohio State Bar Association. His presence on the PMHA
Board will be a great asset to the board and to the community. His
appointment to board was made by Scioto County Common Pleas Court
Judges.
At the Hudson House, after the meeting that was not a meeting,
Sentinel reporters met briefly with PMHA Chairman Tim Angel, who
was closely accompanied by PMHA attorney, Dan Ruggerio.
When asked about recent questionable contracts, Chairman Tim Angel
advised Sentinel reporters to address all questions to the Attorney
Dan Ruggerio.
The first question is, "if there is nothing wrong with the PMHA
contracts, why it is necessary to have an attorney answer our
questions?"
Our second question is, "how much is PMHA paying Attorney Dan
Ruggerio?" Mr. Ruggerio has a long record of serving public organizations
for pay.
Mr. Angel, by using his attorney to obstruct public information
requests, will not keep the public from learning of PMHA contract
activities and other PMHA expenditures. Use of an attorney cannot change
the Ohio Sunshine Laws, only slow the process. Refusal to furnish public
information is usually expensive in legal fees to the agency that refuses
to comply with the laws. TTT
